PETER: The untold true story of the boy who never grew up is an illuminating insight that explores the mysterious life of one of the age of enlightenment's most curious characters, through the eyes of those who met him. The enthralling, enchanting historical narrative( wherein you discover the origins of a legend)transports you back in time to the heart of18th century England. The exciting adventures of the wild boy {mirrored in the fairytale of Peter Pan} are encapsulated on the page, with such vibrancy and enthusiastic interest. Journeying from the enchanted forest of Hamelin, to the grim house of corrections at Celle and to the splendour of the Royal Palaces in London and Kensington Gardens; this supremely singular story is one that will linger on forever...in all our hearts!

"All children grow up, all but one.
His name is Peter and by now,
All the civilized world has herd of him."

Chris Mechling's extraordinary novel full of rich detail goes beyond the classic fairytale to expose the real boy who lived. Focusing on the boy who lived more than a hundred years before James Barrie wrote his classic, this book brings a past era gloriously to life (including iconic legendary figures such as Daniel Defoe and Jonathan Swift).Peter was not only a popular, recognizable figure at the time but also an intense philosophical and scientific study + an interest to many literary figures. Most significantly within this book the author captures with acute clarity the joyful, intuitive spirit of the individual who became something truly remarkable... Peter's joy, innocence and fire are qualities that we all embody as children and so I found this poignant account rather nostalgic.

Memories of my childhood and youth were brought to the fore as I delved into this dazzling novel, containing colourful characters and thoughtful reflections and impacting resonance. Peter is a magical, poignant tale full of love, humor and outstanding courage in the face of hardship and trials. Above all this wonderful book makes you dream and remember how dreams really can come true!

Peter The Untold True Story Christopher Daniel Mechling 9780989127011 Books Reviews

It was quite believable. I loved this version of Peter Pan. You could see how the two stories came together in many parts. I could not put it down. Read it in 1 night.
As this story progressed I became more and more fascinated with Peter. I was impressed with his ability to adapt to whatever situation he was placed in through the years. I am also pleased that his portrait is still hanging in the palace.
This was one of the best books I have read in a very long time. Amazing how someone that would otherwise have been lost to society because they do not fit into the mold we want them to fit into touched so many lives. And how those that were touched never forgot the impact one simple life made in theirs. The story is so heartwarming and inspirational. Truly makes one reflect on their own life. I only wished that the story would not end.
Wonderfully written book about Peter the Wild Boy! I'd never heard of this person before this book. The true and detailed life of an abandoned child raised by forest creature in eighteenth-century Germany. Peter, an ever-youthful individual, is "caught" and brought into the court society of George I in Germany and England. It was common place in some locales in those days to "expose" an unwanted child. I wonder if that is the beginning of Peter's story (my conjecture). Please read the Product Description and some of the other Reviews. Well written and highly descriptive material there!
In the early 1700's, a young boy was discovered living alone in the forests of Germany, unable to communicate with people but completely at home with animals, including bears, deer, rabbits, birds - think Mowgli in Europe. Through journals left by two young, bright girls, one German, the other British, we learn the true story of Peter the Wild Boy and how he came to be part of England's royal family. Written with exceptional care to keep the details of his life in order, you'll be captivated and enchanted by Peter's adventures as seen through the eyes of those who loved him best. No doubt about how James Barrie conceived his famous character!
This was a short and well written book about a person and events that formed the basis for J.M. Barry's "Peter Pan of Kensington Garden". While I give it only 3 stars that is more because the book just didn't appeal to me personally. We are all aware of Peter Pan so it will come as no surprise that this book is about lose of innocence and the encroachment of adulthood on all of us mortals. It is a nice story but I found myself being more curious about the truth involved with the book's Peter's origin and the reasons for his condition. Of course nobody at the time was equipped to conduct an appropriate investigation and clinical examination so such curiosity will never be satisfied. Considering the personalities involved in Peter's life I am also surprised to have never heard of this story before finding this book.
I think I have a new favorite book. It was so interesting, seeing the different elements that were included in the Barrie narrative, but this Peter, Prince of the Enchanted Forest, the Wild Boy, was historical, real, and you can find him in a byway of history, as well as his tombstone. The narrative includes the boy raised by fairies (fireflies?), the girl who finds him, princes and princesses, King George I, II, and III, Jonathan Swift, Sir Isaac Newton, Daniel Defoe, pirates, and his magical eyes and manner that affect everyone around him. You will not regret reading this history, and remembering it on warm, windy nights, when you're "saying funny things to the stars."
