Not Quite the Classics Colin Mochrie Books

Each short story begins and ends with the beginning and ending lines of a famous book. In between Mochrie weaves a funny and unique tale that, while having nothing to do with the book the lines originally came from, nevertheless leads to the ending line. In between he inserts some of his clever humor. My favorite line is in a story about a wig shop that is broken into. The day it was broken into there was an audition for bald actors in the building across the street. The shop owner suspects it was one of the bald actors. The narrator disagrees saying "Bald people don't steal." I loved this book and I wish he would write another.

Not Quite the Classics Colin Mochrie Books Reviews

Difficult to understand. Maybe I"m just a bit uneducated? Though I did graduate College ~
This was a great read! I have been waiting this book for some time (then it got delayed...), but finally I managed to buy it.
I was laughing out loud quite often, and not the least because I kind of read the book "in the voice" of Colin (his very own way of talking and his accent), it only made it funnier. You can easily get lost in the particular story you're into, forgetting that the story is about something else, then he gets you back with two or three carefully placed words.

Be on the lookout for the Whose Line references! (Not quite directly, of course).

Glad I bought this book!
His talent is limitless. I've watched him on TV and seen him in live shows. He's brilliant with improvisation! While this book is different than improv, it is hilariously entertaining nonetheless. It's a quick read, but you won't regret it.
I love Colin, but this book wasn't my favorite. Some of the stories were very amusing. Some - not so much. He's a good writer, but I'm not sure this was his best stuff.
This won't be an easy read especially for some who prefer more easygoing, or shall-we-say easy-to-follow, comedy. It probably won't even appeal to every fan of Colin Mochrie, the very well-recognized Improv comedian who was brought to TV viewers attentions for being on both the UK and US versions of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" among other Canadian comedic themed specials and humorous American movie cameos. This for starters isn't what you expect you might think with the title that this is more of a biography of Colin but while there is some detailing of his life (some new, some old), it's for the most part restricted to only seeing how ridiculously the man can be if he were to re-adapt some beloved, or rather well-known, literary classics. This is where this book truly varies in "interesting" to "hah" moments and it's mainly more amusing if you just want to see the comedic mad man carry it out rather than it being belly-aching laughs. There are some pictures scattered in it should I remember correctly but for the most part it can be a tad too wordy but is mainly recommended for hardcore completists of anything by the Whose Line? comic performers.
Colin Mochrie has done exactly what he set out to do. He made a point, in his introduction, of stressing how little work he liked to do. Well this book comes across as too much fun to be called work! I am not saying that he didn't work hard, but the great ones always make their job seem easy.
Each chapter is constructed from the first and last lines of classic stories with the meat of the sacrilegious sandwich provided by the author. The result is one hell of a delicatessen!
He put a little of himself into each story (actually, more than a little into the chapter entitled "Moby"). The narrative of each tale flows smoothly and just when you think you know where the story is going - it ends! Followers of his live comedy and TV appearances will immediately recognize his departures and non-sequitors; the rhythm and cadence of the characters' protestations are unmistakable!
The reader imagines Colin talking himself into a corner and wishing a Ryan Styles or Brad Sherwood was there to help him escape. Even though he was stuck with nothing but his reflection in the literary mirror he did not disappoint. This book is an insight into what a real fan could only hope for "An Evening with Colin Mochrie and Colin Mochrie".
I bought this book for my daughter who really likes Colin Mochrie. (She knows him from Whose Line). She seemed to like this book a lot, although she had mixed feelings about some of the chapters. For example, she really liked the one based on Cat and the Hat, with all of the Zombies. She thought that Colin's ability to keep on rhyming for so long was pretty good. She didn't like some of the other stories though--such as the one pertaining to Franken-chicken. It was a bit too odd for her. She also liked the story about Moby, even if it was a bit peculiar.

Overall, she appreciated Colin's wit and would suggest this book.
