Love and the Library - A celebration of the beginnings of love wherein young Regency gentlemen meet their matches over a copy of "Pride and Prejudice" at the library.
Book 1 Clara and Justin
"Pride and Prejudice" has always brought lovers together, even in the Regency.
Justin has a deep, dark secret—he likes that most despised form of literature, the novel. His favorite novel is "Pride and Prejudice", and, especially, Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Intelligent, lively, fiercely loyal Miss Elizabeth. How he would love to meet a lady like her.
Clara’s favorite novel is "Pride and Prejudice" and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Intelligent, steadfast and willing to admit when he is wrong. Can such a splendid man exist? And can she find him?
One day in the library, they both check out copies of their favorite book. When Justin bumps into Clara, the magic of their similar taste in books just might make their wishes come true.
A sweet, traditional, drawing room not bedroom, Regency romantic comedy, but not a retelling of "Pride and Prejudice". 13,000 words.

At a time when vigilant mothers tried to keep novels away from their daughters and gentlemen scorned them as reading material for silly females, both Justin Fellowes and Clara Haley were fiercely devoted to Miss Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."Justin wished for a woman as intelligent, sensible, and pretty as Elizabeth Bennet. Clara wished for a man as steadfast, devoted, and handsome as Fitzwilliam Darcy. From their first encounter at Hookham's Lending Library where they discovered their mutual obsession with Miss Austen's novel, each began to hope they had found their perfect match.
Clara is the daughter of a viscount of apparently modest means and Justin is a bank clerk. Clara has an unusual and unfashionable business acumen that her family wishes to hide, and Justin has to keep his own obsession with "Pride and Prejudice" secret from his frivolous friends.
This is a charming courtship tale of two people who discover that they have much more in common than their taste in reading material. Such as: strolling in Hyde Park, feeding the ducks, and fencing, besides their mutual interest in finance. But will Justin's overbearing employer—and a greedy ingrate of a duck—manage to keep them apart?
Ms. Banche has a deft hand with description, including not only vivid images, but also sounds and smells to entice the reader back in time to 1818 London. Clara and Justin are likable, memorable characters who manage to prevail in spite of the difficulties that come their way.
Anyone looking for an upbeat, sweet Regency courtship tale will find this story just the thing. The "Pride and Prejudice" quotes are icing on the cake!

Enjoyable little story...too little. I'd have liked this to be drawn out more, seems like the characters moved all too quickly to the end.
This story was quite enjoyable I do wish it had been longer. Meeting her family, his useless friends getting what is due them, still no complaints, this book was a nice find.
I really enjoyed this Novella about two people who love the same thing, in this case the novel Pride and Prejudice. Justin believes he has found his Elizabeth Bennett and Clara who has found her Mr. Darcy.
I have been reading a lot of books by different authors of late. Some regency, some modern and I have thoroughly enjoyed this delightful and very romantic tale. I love the characters, their thoughts and their language. I look forward to reading more of Linda's work.
This was a sweet historical Regency novella about two young people who meet in a bookstore and bond over a copy of Pride and Prejudice. It's a quick and fun read. Clara and Justin are likeable as the heroine and hero. I especially enjoyed a scene that harkened back to Colin Firth's wet shirt scene though here it's from fencing. I will read more in this series.
I liked this little story, as far as it went, but I was surprised that it was so short. It read to me like the opening chapters of a much longer novel. Young gentleman with very little money meets pretty young lady from a more affluent family and finds that they have similar taste and temperatment. It stops there. There's nothing about what happens after that. Does she marry a poor man and learn to scrape by? Or does she bring a little money to the union and then wonder if he was a fortune hunter? How does he feel about outsiders thinking he is a fortune hunter? How do their families react? Does their relationship survive the difficult adjustments in any marriage but especially in an unequal match? And why leave it there? So though it was sweet, I was left feeling disappointed.
In early 19th century London, Justin Fellowes has a secret that he does not want his small group of buddies to know, he loves reading novels and his favorite is Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." Miss Clara Haley also favors "Pride and Prejudice," as it shows a strong and intelligent woman finding love with a handsome man willing to accept such an intelligent woman. When both just happen to meet at Hookham's bookstore and library returning the same Austen masterpiece, the attraction is immediate but reserved due to the conventions of the day and their own insecurities. Will they be able to reconnect? This is a very quick novella in the Regency romance subgenre, which I just learned refers to the time of the British Regency (1811-1820)and reflects a clean romance style of dialogue over physicality. It was interesting to sense the tone of the cultural period; however, it only took me an hour to read the basic Hallmark-style plot. For those who enjoy a light little romance, there will be no disappointment.
