Take a Breath is not only one of the most unique and exciting reads that I have come across all year, but also one of the most well-written, with a vivid, visually rich writing style that kept me hooked from near start to end. If you're looking for action, dynamic characters, and a clearly well-thought-out plot - all complimented and expressed by top quality writing, then you absolutely MUST read Take a Breath. The setting has a sort of dark vibe which initially had me curious, once you're about 1/4 through the book - there's no turning back, it's as if the author has mastered the art of hooking and enticing a reader. Definitely a 'must read' in my opinion, and a book that I will be recommending to many of my thriller-fan friends!

"Take A Breath" by S.K. Paisley is a chilling and heartbreaking story that straddles the world of organized crime with its violence, murder and vice. It begins when fourteen year old Lena Warren, high on drugs meets and falls into the charismatic web of drug dealer, Paul Dalziel. What follows is a love affair between Lena and Paul that's tragically strangled by his bloody ties to the criminal underworld controlled by a malicious and violent gangster,Manny Munroe.

Although well-written the plot is dark and foreboding as love and obsession consume Paul and Lena over the years. S.K. Paisley's narrative with its graphic language and description builds an image of the criminal world of Glasgow that's dark, brutal and merciless. Confronted by a lifestyle that swallows any human decency Paul struggles to get out and to save the woman he desperately wants and loves. Action-packed and moving at a fast pace the plot is mesmerizing and intense from beginning to the end. After being trapped by Lena's sister Paul relives a dark journey into a past he thought long dead and buried, only to reveal a truth he doesn't want to face. Even the ending to this story is shocking and touching as justice prevails.

Like the plot the characters are well-developed and complex, each one pitted with tragic flaws. Lena Warren is a beautiful, energetic young woman plagued with an alcoholic mother and her shiftless, abusive boyfriend who finds love in the arms of a broken, dispirited criminal with a disreputable past and a murky future. Paul Dalziel is the angry, abused and violent young felon who's obsessed by a love that can only bring pain and despair. Manny Munroe the brutal, sadistic and toxic crime lord is evil incarnate destroying lives with drugs, prostitution and a thirst for vengeance when his authority is undermined. It is the power and passion of these personalities that add drama to a captivating plot.

In a world where love and morality is juxtaposed against corruption, violence and bloodshed, S.K. Paisley has a created a uniquely fascinating story of ill-fated love which rates a 4.5.
I would recommend Take a Breath to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers. There is plenty of suspense - the plot is complex and exciting. I was gripped from start to finish and did not want this book to end.
Take a Breath by Palsley truly is a magnificent thriller that takes us on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
If you're into crime and/or thriller novels then this is one for you!
The authors' writing is fluent and descriptive, painting a picture of exactly what Glasgow is like throughout the text.

If you have high standards for crime and gangster tales, then this is for you. I really enjoyed it. The story and characters are complex and rich, and each chapter is full of suspense and intrigue.

This is a very authentic and well-written novel. The setting is incredibly vivid and dark, and the characters are all well-rounded and interesting while still being realistic. The author really does a wonderful job of building a tense and mysterious picture of the Glasgow underworld, and the strength of this setting really puts the book on another level.

The book is fast-paced, exciting, and clearly written. It sucks you in and is impossible to put down. Easily one of the most purely entertaining books I have read all year!
The first thing I noticed about Take a Breath is the incredibly lucid writing style that S.K. Paisley presents. This was enough to draw me in, but once I started reading I could not take my eyes away. Paisley has a way with words that draws a reader in

"Her unbuttoned denim jacket delineated her blossoming bosom; her skirt was hitched high up her suntanned thighs."

This book is full of interesting material; tongue-in-cheek humor, suspense, interesting characters, and a plot that thickens with every page. The tone of the book is soft at times and dark at others; challenging the reader and keeping us all on our toes while wondering what is next.

The characters - Paul and Lena - are relatable, brilliantly drawn out, and interesting enough to draw emotions from the reader. You will be drawn in (just like I was) so I hope you set aside ample time to finish this book in one setting - you will need it!

Overall, this book is one of the best crime thrillers that I have read in quite some time. The attention to detail is amazing - the cover, the editing, the storyline - all top-notched. I give this great read two thumbs up and five stars!
